Can you stand the excitement? 8-)
Many developers of free Java software lack a domain name that
they can use for their Java package names. If you join the
project, you can choose a package domain name under 'org.gjt'
as your own. Once that package domain name is assigned to
you, you may use it for all of your packages, since that
package domain now belongs to you. Both accounts and
package domains are assigned on a first come first served basis.
Each developer will have full
access to the live Giant Java Tree CVS Repository. You
will be a peer with all other developers, and you will
automatically be assigned as the maintainer of your work.
You will be able to manage your software, and get
free and automatic backup.
Each developer will be
given an email account on mail.gjt.org.
Mailing List Support
Mailing lists will
be created for projects that demonstrate enough interest
and for tree development in general.
With jCVS, the GJT project
has state-of-the-art version management software. Several
projects in progress, including bug tracking and release
management, will complete the suite.
The Giant Java Tree is automatically backed up and archived.
Mailing lists are archived and searchable, the website, cvs
repository, user home directories, and all other areas of
the project are backed up every night. A full featured web
based archival system is under design.
Your work on the Giant Java Tree makes for an excellent item
on your resume, and allows potential employers to immediately
review your work online in an impressive format.
