Giant Java Network

Once you get a feel for the Giant Java Tree, and experience the potential for productivity enhancement and code reuse, you will also begin to see some of its limitations.

Lets start with the most obvious limitation. The Giant Java Tree is not, and can not be the Total Java Tree. It is not only technically absurd, but highly undesirable. If one tried to accomplish the single tree design, they would contend with issues such as ownership, licensing, maintenance, bandwidth, and much more. Besides, every major project has its own personality and environment. Attempting to integrate everything would be a futile nightmare.

Therefore, one concludes that there should be a forest of giant java trees. And each of these trees should be interwoven with the others via some simple, internet based mechanism. Thus, if I reference a class that comes from the class 'com.sun.util', I am automatically transported to that "tree site" for everything under that package.

On these pages, we will attempt to specify such a network of source code sites. If successful, we hope this site will become the beta for those which will be replicated across the net.
